Student Comic Contest: MY Florida History

The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU offers this contest encouraging creativity, self-discovery and empathy for critical challenges common to all.
The Museum is dedicated to multi-cultural education and demonstrates through exhibitions, public programs, and a collection of archival materials how the challenges of the immigrant experience shared by all ethnicities in the diverse State of Florida and the nation.
In celebration of our upcoming exhibition around comic artist and graphic novelist Will Eisner, the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU invites students from grades 4-12 to develop a four-panel comic on [YOUR] Florida history. Students are encouraged to consider their personal family history, migration story, and what makes Florida home?
All submissions must include a four-panel comic including at least 2 text bubbles, along with a one to three paragraph description of their work, typed and double-spaced, and a completed application form available here.
Who is eligible?
All Florida students in grades 4-12. One entry per student. Deadline: All submissions must be received by mail or email by Monday, April 20, 2020, 5:00 pm. Please include “Student Comic Contest” in the subject line.

Prizes will be awarded to (3) elementary school level; (3) middle school level; and (3) high school level students as follows:
- First prize: $125.00
- Second prize: $75.00
- Third prize: $50.00
- Winner’s classes will also receive a free school group tour. The awards ceremony at the Museum held in May in celebration of American Jewish History month. Winners’ classes will also receive a free school group tour.
